PEACHTREE CHAPTER BMW CCA AUTOCROSS SERIES

Autocross Preparation Guide

Be sure to read and understand all of this information before you go to the autocross site!

Autocross General Information

For those wondering about autocross and what it is, here is some useful information:

An autocross is both a social and driving event that will help sharpen your driving skills, let you compete against fellow Chapter members, and explore the limits of your car's handling capabilities.

Aside from crushing a few road cones and accelerating your tire wear, autocrossing need not be hard on your car. In fact, the fastest times come from the smoothest drivers. As with driving schools, the more you practice (and focus!), the smoother you get. Here are some useful links that will help you understand autocrossing:

Car Classification

You must have an Autocross car classification to compete in the 2006 Peachtree Series!
For this year's series, we will be using our own classification system.

To find your car classification, go to the Car Classification Worksheet.

Waiver Of Liability Form

When you arrive at the site, your name will be checked against a list kept by the gate keeper. If you are a registered driver or a registered guest, then you and everyone in your car gets in.

All participants, guests, and spectators 18 or older must sign the waiver of liability form. Drivers must be at least 16 years old. Everyone under 18 must have a parent or guardian sign a release form at the site.

The forms are signed when you enter the gate at the autocross site.

If you are already registered: In order to provide as many runs as possible, it is important to arrive on time, and preferably early. Directly upon arrival, check in at registration at the gate. You must sign the waiver.

Helmets

Note: Snell 2000 or newer helmets are required for the 2006 season.

A 2000 or newer Snell-approved helmet is required for the Peachtree Chapter Autocross Series. Both Snell SA (special applications) and Snell MA (motorcycle) ratings are accepted. Rental helmets may be available for a small fee from the Peachtree Chapter, so feel free to come if you don't have your own helmet.

The club has several helmets that will be available to rent for a fee of $10.00.

Tech Inspections

Your car must be in good repair, and pass the on-site technical inspection. Vehicles are allowed to run at the sole discretion of the Autocross Chair. Each car must pass Tech Inspection to participate in the event.

The biggest problem discovered during Tech Inspection is loose objects inside the car. Cell phone in the door pocket? Jack stand loose in the trunk? Change in the ash tray? Clean it out, or don't run.

The determination of whether a car is excessively loud will be at the discretion of the Autocross Chair and Chief of Tech. An exception might be made for an unmuffled car that is still reasonably quiet. Exceptions to this policy may be made at the discretion of the Autocross Chair. Our chapter standard is 95db at 25 feet.

To help ensure that your vehicle and helmet fully comply with our technical requirements, please review the following Technical Inspection Checklist:
