Autocross FAQ

Q: This is my first time autocrossing.  What should I expect?
A: Answers to many of your questions may be found here. If after reading this you still have questions, feel free to post them on the forum or ask one of the Autocross Committee members.

Q: What class does my car run in?
A: Visit the Autocross Classification Worksheet. Find your car in the left hand column and click on the radio button (the thing that looks like a dot) next to it.  Then, locate any modifications you have made in the right hand column and click on the box next to each one. Your car's base points and mod points will be totaled, and your car class indicated near the top of the page.

Q: What kind of helmet do I need for autocross?
A: Snell 2000 and Snell 2005 helmets are acceptable. SA or M rated helmets are allowed for autocross. Helmets adhering to the Snell 2010 standard will become available later this year. At that time, owners of Snell 2000 helmets will have a 1-year grace period during which their helmets will still be accepted for autocross. After that, a Snell 2005 or newer helmet will be required. That means by the end of 2011, you will be required to have a Snell 2005 or Snell 2010 helmet to compete in autocross events.   Helmets can be rented at the Autocross timing tent.

Q: Can I have a passenger...or be a passenger in another participant's car?
A: No passengers are allowed.  Only an approved autocross instructor can ride as a passenger.

Q: How do I become an approved instructor?
A: This is at the sole discretion of the Autocross Committee.

Q: Do I have to stay for my work group?
A: Every autocrosser will be assigned a work group and a run group.  During the work group session you will be assigned a duty.  You are required to stay for this work group session.  If you work before you run, you can leave as soon as your last run is complete.
